Today I am envious of those with a job...yes I'm still on the hunt, with a few interviews coming up. I've contacted an interior designer from the community...I'm hoping she can help me with some ideas for window covers as well as possibly paint colours (help choose from what we've already sort of put together). BUT I need a job if I am going to justify spending money on that.
Part of our "deal" is we get up to 4 paint colours in the house; any number of colours beyond that is additional $$$.
SO, I've found the most fabulous colour from Behr, called "Mesa Taupe"
This will go into the basement....the walk out television room. And to compliment it (halls and bedrooms downstairs).... Cedar Key by Benjamin Moore.

Then things get messy...I really love the idea of french blue or steel blue aka greyish blue etc. in the Master Bedroom and Bathroom BUT the boyfriend, for some reason, HATES it. So in the name of compromise, we have sort of for now agreed on White Ice by BM, but I think it's too subtle and even so, not enough grey...sooooo will wait to get some paint samples and slop it on the wall later. Then there is this little issue of main colour for the rest of the house, which is open concept living room, dining room...and main bath, office and foyer. Again, we sort of for now agreed with Silken Pine by BM again, yet again I think it's too subtle. I originally wanted a soft almost white, but hint of lemon yellow, but that was kibosh-ed by the boy too- then he had suggested I look for "peach colours" so I found some nice colours with peach and/or pink undertones...but those we not well taken either. Apparently he likes browns, and what I refer to as "old lady tan"....some may call it "builder's brown".

Basically it's safe, totally boring, and reminds me of the colour of (pardon me) squishy dog poop...it was also the colour used for the "feature wall" in our old house in Drumheller, which happened to be a spec. house...so ya, "Builder's Brown" works too. (Clearly a lot of dislike here...where was I? Oh right, my boyfriend likes these colours...).
Okay so pinks are out, yellows are out, dark colours are out (downstairs can be dark and brooding, upstairs needs to be light and bright and warm). Blues are out unless I agree to sky blue or royal blue, which I won't. I won't allow grey since the floors are have a grey undertone and I don't want a depressing looking living space, and brown is stupid. The way we are going here is "modern cabin", as they described it on "Steven and Chris" today, or "Classy Rustic"? Um, light, bright, open, shiny, fresh and crisp...so that also removes bold jewel tone colours. What are we left with here? Well, I had tried to avoid it since my sister went in this direction with her new condo...and my mom's house is done in this colour, and if not done right, it can be just as old ladyish as the tan colour, but we found some level of agreement with the colour green.
Don't get me wrong, I love green- favourite colour actually. Totally relaxing, clean, calm and earthy...sort of what I want. But it's common and hard to get right for me. I don't want a dark colour, but you can't really go with a subtle green (white with green hint) because I find that old lady like. I also find blueish greens old lady like...
Hunter Green, emerald, lime, apple- they all carry with them a certain genre...old, 80's juvenile...the emerald is quite popular lately but I don't want trendy and I'd only do it in an office or a laundry room.
Olive green is too dark and masculine for me....so what is it? Well, a yellow undertone would work, and possibly a grey undertone may work....here are some options I like...
Benjamin Moore's Soft Fern
Maybe? Sort of maybe old lady....
How about "spa" by BM?
Maybe not green enough?
Fernwood Green?
OR? What is the name of this? Celadon? By?
Oy....just gotta leave it until I can slop some samples up I guess....
But what about my blue in the master bath issue? I'm thinking I'd rather go with Grey Lake by BM or hell, even Grey Cashmere by BM, or Chelsea Fog by Glidden...
